Day 1: Arrival
We depart from London Heathrow via Izmir on flight to Ercan in Northern Cyprus.
On arrival we will be met and transferred to our accommodation for dinner and
overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Castles of Kyrenia
Today we will visit two great castles, St Hilarion and Buffavento Castles,
situated some 2,000 feet above sea level, with stunning panoramic views along
the entire Northern coastline. These castles were built by the Crusaders,
following their retreat from the Holy Land, when they lost their last remaining
stronghold at the port of Haifa in 1291. Lunch will be at the Castle of
Buffavento with the marvellous view of The Capital. The trip will start at 10.00
and we will return to our hotel around 17.00. 19.00 Welcome Meeting, information
about the country and the program for the rest of the week. Dinner and overnight
at the Hotel
Day 3: Salamis, St. Barnabas & The Kings
Tombs
We visit the Monastery of St Barnabas and the Museum/Monastery of Apostolo
Varnavas (near Salamis). We drive to Enkomi a Middle Bronze Age City, then to
Salamis Ancient city, which was the biggest city kingdom of Cyprus for 18
centuries from 11 century BC. Until the 7th. Century AD, The ruins of this
ancient city with its vast marble columns surrounding the gymnasium, pool and
baths will give an experience of what life must have been like in those times.
Then, the Kings Tombs will give you an Idea, how the life was developed during
these periods. The kings were so loved by their subjects that when they died
they buried with all theirs belongings like cloths, gold, and even their horse.
The people at this time believed that by doing this, their beloved king will
need these to start his new life. Return back to the hotel around 17.30. Dinner
and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Half Day Kyrenia Tour
Half day sightseeing tour of Kyrenia city. Kyrenia is one of the most
picturesque of Mediterranean towns. Kyrenia Castle with the shipwreck museum and
the 12th century Bellapais Abbey will take you into the medieval times. Dinner
at a local Tavern and overnight at the Hotel.
Day 5: East of Kyrenia + Karpas Peninsula
A full days tour with visits to Kantara Castle, thought to have been constructed
to protect the town against the Arabs raids in the 7th century. Then on to Ayios
Philon, Aphendrike and the famous Apostolos Andreas Monastery. Dinner at the
hotel and overnight
Day 6: Full Day Boat Trip or Orchid walk in
the mountains
According to the season we may have a boat trip or have a walk in the five
Finger Mountains. Dinner at a local Tavern and overnight at the Hotel
Day 7: The Only Divided Capital of the world
- Nicosia
Today we drive to the capital of Northern Cyprus, Nicosia. We visit the Selimiye
and Arabahmet Mosques, the Stonework Museum and St Sophia Cathedral. See the
Whirling Derveshers, and the Mansion of Dervish Pasha. The trip will start at
10.00 and we will return to the hotel around 16.00. Gala Night at the Kybele
restaurant, inside the Bellapais Abbey and overnight at the hotel.
Day 8: Departure to the Airport
We depart from the hotel for the return flight to London.
