Akkule Mosque
An inscription above its entrance door dates the Ottoman Akkule Mosque back to 1618. Following the Ottomans' conquest of Famagusta in 1571, they built an additional entrance for the city alongside the existing one on the Rivettina Bastion, now known as Akkule. Shortly afterwards, the small mosque was added for the gate's guards' prayers.

Made of hewn stones, the mosque is situated between the old and the new gate on the inner side of the walls. Being built snug against the Venetian walls, it is of irregular shape. The mosque was renovated in the 18th century. Recently it has been renovated again, and today host the Tourist Information Centre of Famagusta.
